My journey is a recapturing of the childlike wonder so many of us lose to the pressures of modern society. It’s a willingness to give myself to the ecstasy of discovery and exploration, and the realisation of our deepest primal desire for adventure.
Through travel, my goal is to discover who I am, and help others do the same. I want to go off the beaten track, live adventurously, think curiously, eat strangely, party unconventionally and discover bliss in the most uncommon places.
I want to get lost in the world!
Come and Join Me
Who Am I?
Hey! I’m Peter, The Traveling White Belt and this is my journey as I explore the beauty of the world both inside us and out.
Over 2 years ago I was in a university lecture dreading the next two hours I was about to sit through. A woman came into the room to talk about a volunteering organisation with an opportunity in the Amazon Basin of Ecuador.
My mind started spinning, there was no way I could concentrate on this lecture, I spent the next two hours dreaming of jungles and adventure.
After my lecture I went to the meeting and with no job and four hundred dollars in the bank, I paid the non-refundable three hundred and fifty dollar deposit, it was settled I was going to Ecuador (assuming I could raise the money). As it turned out, I did raise the money, and the two week volunteer program turned into a seven week journey through five South American countries. I was addicted to adventure.
When I returned home all I could think about was returning to that part of the world, but more than that something inside of me had changed. I didn’t just want adventure, I wanted to be happy and I wasn’t prepared to wait for retirement to get both. The next ten months I spent figuring out how to get back to the other side of the world.
I worked and schemed and borrowed until I had a one way ticket to Mexico City and a vague plan of studying in Colombia. Now, I am realising my dreams, challenging myself and growing as a person everyday and I couldn’t be happier. But you know what? You can be too!
